Dance Running

Dance Running is the art of expressing rhythm and joy through dance while running, jogging, walking, hiking, wheeling, or through any form that moves you. It’s all about moving freely, having fun, and letting your body reflect the music in your head, even as you run and move. It’s a celebration of self-expression, and if you happen to spark a smile from someone along the way, even better!

It’s also about letting go of your inhibitions. Don’t worry about how you look or what others might think. This is your moment to be playful, present, and unapologetically yourself. When you dance run, you’re not just exercising; you’re igniting joy in yourself and maybe others, one movement (or groove) at a time.

Here’s how to get started:

  1. Start with Skipping
Skipping is the easiest and most playful entry point. It’s rhythmic, uplifting, and instantly joyful — your first “dance move” in motion.
  2. Find Your Beat
Plug into an upbeat playlist or groove to the rhythm in your head. Music fuels your movement and sets the tone.
  3. Loosen Up
Shake out your arms, shoulders, and hips. Let go of stiffness and start feeling your body move freely. This isn’t about form, it’s about flow.
  4. Add Simple Moves
    Start incorporating light moves like:
    • Side steps
    • Arm waves
    • Hops or spins
    • Shoulder rolls
    • Air punches or even jazz hands 😉
  5. Mix in Movement Intervals
Alternate between dance, skipping, running, walking, and jogging. There’s no right pace. Follow your energy.
  6. Let Go of Inhibitions
Don’t worry about looking silly. Laugh, wave, or even sing if you want (just be polite to others on their journey). You’re not performing for others, you’re playing and having fun in life, so let yourself go and be present with whatever you feel.
  7. Create Your Style
Over time, you’ll develop your own signature moves. Let them evolve naturally. Be bold, be weird, be you!
  8. Spread the Joy
Every step is a chance to share positivity. Whether it’s a smile from a passerby or a curious glance, your joy is contagious.

You can often find me on the Coquitlam Crunch or somewhere around the Tri-Cities, dancing, running, and just having fun on my journey. Huge thanks to everyone who’s shared a moment; whether it’s a smile, a returned heart sign, or even a spontaneous dance move. Your energy fueled my day and I’m grateful for you. Much love to everyone!
